About Cheshire
Cheshire, CT is a small town that's perfect for families and contains some of the nicest (and most upscale) real estate in the state. Cheshire's main shopping and commercial area is mainly comprised of Route 10, which runs through the entire town.
Cheshire has remained a highly agricultural town over the years and is known as the "Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut". However, you'll also find many other specialties, as Cheshire features numerous small businesses. These businesses range from printing companies to boutique shops. Perhaps some of the best small businesses are Cheshire's many ice cream shops and cafes along Route 10.
One of the advantages of finding a home in Cheshire is the fact that even though there aren't large convenience stores right in town (other than Stop and Shop), everything you need, including a Home Depot, Super WalMart, and large chain restaurants like Chili's and Applebees are a short ten minutes down Route 68 into Wallingford.
In Cheshire, you get the feel of a small town with many personal touches, but the convenience of living near a larger town like Wallingford, which has larger restaurants and stores. Cheshire doesn't have a major highway running through the center of it like its neighbor Wallingford does (I-91 and Rt. 15), but I-84 touches the corner of the town. From there, you'll have easy access to the Brass Mill Center mall in Waterbury, or an easy route up to Boston, MA.
Many famous people have come from Cheshire, CT, as well, including Huston Astros catcher Brad Ausmus, NHL player Brian Leetch, ESPN Sportscaster Chris Berman, and actor James Van Der Beek. Cheshire is also the home to Barker Animation Studios, which contains a vast collection of animation memorabilia and original art.
