About Madison
When Connecticut residents think of Madison, they think "the beach"! Hammonasset State Park is the home of the longest and busiest beach in the state. The park is beautifully preserved and is so popular during the summer that it causes traffic jams on Interstate 95 just to get in! But, the wait is well worth it, as you'll not only find a beautiful beach, but plenty of space for outdoor activities such as sports and fishing.
Madison is also the wealthiest of the New Haven suburbs- its situation along the Long Island Sound has made it a popular summer destination for two hundred years. You'll find many beautiful homes along the shore and public and private beaches and country clubs right alongside.
Madison's center consists of many small businesses, as the town officials have kept the small town charm of the center by keeping large chains out. So, residents are treated to a quaint New England downtown area with specialty shops and family-owned restaurants and cafes.
The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library is a treat in town, as it was built in 1901 and is still a popular destination for townspeople today. In fact, a large renovation project is set to expand the library considerably in the next couple of years. The man who designed the building, Henry Bacon, would go on to design the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.
