About Wallingford

Wallingford truly combines everything that's great about Connecticut and New England.  You'll find everything in Wallingford.  Driving on the outskirts of the town, you'll find yourself in a quaint New England paradise that's rich with sprawling land and sometimes, even more sprawling estates.  Some sections of Wallingford look more like midwestern estates because of their barns, livestock, and vineyards.  Make sure to visit the stops along the Connecticut Wine Trail you'll find in Wallingford.

Now, move closer towards the center of the town.  You'll see a classic New England "downtown" area that's complete with old fashioned storefronts and architecture.  There are many roadside cafes and specialty shops lining the Center Street hill up to North Main Street.  The green at the intersection of Route 5 and Center Street is the home of the annual Celebrate Wallingford Festival, which attracts thousands of residents every year for food, music, and family activities.  You'll also see the gorgeous campus of Choate Rosemary Hall (shown above and the Paul Mellon Arts Center at Choate, below), one of the finest and more prestigious private high schools in the nation.  Such famous and important people as John F. Kennedy attended Choate.

Now, move even further into town and you'll find what looks like a city.  The bustling Route 5 section of Wallingford grows every year.  New businesses (national ones) seem to pop up all the time, as Wallingford has become a one-stop destination for shopping and dining in central Connecticut.  You'll find one of the few Super Wal-Mart locations in Wallingford (which is open 24 hours and attracts shoppers from around the county), national food chains such as Chili's and Applebee's, and new local favorites like Humphrey's Bar and Grill and Holiday Cinemas.

Wallingford has close to 50,000 residents now, and the property value is on the rise.  People move to Wallingford and decide to stay because of the good education system, the feel of a suburban (and sometimes rural) New England setting, and the conveniences that Route 5 businesses bring, only a few minutes down the road.
